Method and Approach

· Fundamental technique is emphasized from the start and reinforced throughout the program.

¨ Principles of proper posture, hand position, fingerings, intonation, and bow distribution are integral to early training.

· Technique is introduced and developed in the context of playing repertoire from the solo violin literature.

¨ Traditional folk tunes are interspersed with standard violin pieces from a range of periods, exposing children to a variety of styles and composers and encouraging music appreciation.

· Note-reading, theory, scales, and etudes are introduced at the appropriate time in the child’s development.

· Ensemble playing develops stage presence and promotes cooperation and mutual learning while making music with other children.

· Positive reinforcement is provided, while encouraging each child to reach his or her own highest potential.
