ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

Enrollment in The Music Within Us™ program involves an entire family’s decision to engage in the creation of our unique learning community. Unlike “lessons” that are widely available elsewhere, The Music Within Us™ prides itself on the environment and like-minded philosophy that are carefully nurtured through the selection and constant education of parents and their children in a collaborative process.

The first step toward evaluating whether this lifelong decision is the right one for your family is to come and observe one of our Saturday repertoire classes. There you will gain a sense for the atmosphere of pride, joy, and true passion that bring us together for the sake of our children.

Enrollment in The Music Within Us™ program is for the academic year (September through June), with tuition payable in two semester installments. Summer programs are also available to continuing, currently enrolled students.

Applications are accepted for each academic year beginning during  the fall of the previous year. For Fall 2008, applications must be received prior to March 1, 2008, and trial lessons scheduled the weeks of March 3-14, 2008. All other inquiries will be placed in a waiting pool, for consideration on a space-available basis only.

To be eligible for application to The Music Within Us^TM program, children must be between the ages of two years six months (2 ½) and seven (7) years as of September 1st of the year of desired enrollment. There are a limited number of openings for new students each year. No prior musical experience is necessary.

Note: Enrollment for children who are older than seven years of age or who have prior violin experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Executive Director.

Before applying, parents are required to observe a class and attend a free informational seminar which describes The Music Within Us^TM philosophy in more detail, and provides an opportunity to evaluate their desire and ability to commit to the level of involvement required to participate in The Music Within Us^TM  program.

Parents who choose to apply must then fill out an application form, complete a one-on-one interview with the Executive Director, and participate with their child in a trial lesson. There is a non-refundable application fee to complete this process.

Evaluation for enrollment will be based on the following criteria:

· Fit between The Music Within Us™ philosophy and the parents’ goals for their child’s music training

· Social and emotional developmental readiness of child to function in group and individual settings

· Motivation of child and parents to commit to this approach to music training

· Ability of The Music Within Us™ faculty and program to meet the needs of both child and parents

Students who are accepted for enrollment will be scheduled in an age-appropriate weekly lesson format and attend biweekly repertoire class as appropriate for their developmental level. Changes to the lesson format may be made after the first semester, at the sole discretion of the Executive Director.
